As President of Chicago Idlewilders’ Inc., it is both an honor and a deeply personal privilege to serve a community that has shaped not only my life but the lives of my family for generations. My roots in Idlewild run centuries deep—my ancestors were among those who laid the very foundation of this sacred space, and their legacy lives on in every lake breeze, every tree-lined path, and every joyful reunion.
Idlewild is more than just a destination—it is a living testament to Black excellence, resilience, and joy. It is where our elders found sanctuary during times when the world outside offered none. It is where children have grown up feeling seen, celebrated, and safe. It is where history breathes through laughter around the fire, spirited conversations on porches, and the soulful echo of music carried on warm summer nights.
As we move forward, our mission remains rooted in unity, preservation, and celebration. We are committed to honoring our past, empowering the present, and inspiring future generations to carry the torch with pride and purpose.
